Decorative plaster bark beetle in the apartment. The method of finishing the facade with bark beetle plaster

Unpretentious, hardy and at the same time having an original pattern, the decoration of the house with bark beetle is now deservedly considered the leader among existing species decorative plaster. Virtually any surface is subject to this material, no matter what you finish, the facade, balcony or walls from the inside of the house, everywhere the bark beetle will organically fit into the existing interior. Plus, the technology for decorating walls with bark beetles is not as complicated as it might seem, and in this article I will try to describe in detail all the subtleties and pitfalls that may occur in this process.

What is decorative plaster "bark beetle"

Now, almost on every street you can find a house finished “under the bark beetle”. Visually, the drawing resembles wood eaten by a bark beetle, in fact, this was the reason for such an extravagant name.

In this case, such an original look is achieved due to the fact that small granules are added to the general viscous plaster mass. And thanks to a certain application technique, these granules rolling over the surface of the wall leave small furrows that are absolutely similar to the natural pattern.

It has been proven that the decoration of the facade with bark beetle looks organic both at close examination and at a distance. This phenomenon is explained by natural ornament. A person on a subconscious level perceives all the creations of nature as beautiful, and most importantly, safe.

Types of plaster

The mechanical strength of decorative bark beetle plaster allows it to be applied both outside and inside the premises. These compositions are absolutely indifferent to changes in temperature and humidity. They do not burn, plus, thanks to antiseptic additives, fungus and mold do not start on such a lining.

On this moment The market offers 3 types of bark beetle:

  • Mineral-based formulations were the first to appear on the market.. These are relatively inexpensive dry mixes that are sold in standard paper bags. As with any dry mix, mineral bark beetle must be diluted with water before use.
    The mineral base gives high strength, which only intensifies over the years. But at the same time, any shrinkage of the building or other movement of the base can cause cracking. Of course, this is not “fatal”, small cracks are easily repaired, but you must admit, it’s still unpleasant;

  • Acrylic-based plaster made a real sensation on the market. The presence of a modern high-quality polymer endowed the bark beetle with a wide range of colors. Moreover, on an acrylic base, almost any exterior paint lays down easily and looks decent.
    Acrylic plasters are considered more elastic, slight deformations here will no longer cause small cracks. And most importantly, you do not need to mess with stirring. Acrylic bark beetle is sold ready-made, packed in plastic buckets. Just open the bucket and work;

  • Silicone-based bark beetle appeared relatively recently. If you believe the advertisement, then he absorbed all the best characteristics of the two previous versions of the material. It is elastic, withstands any possible humidity and temperature for us. Warranty period operation is more than 20 years. In fact, the only serious drawback of silicone plaster is its exorbitant price.

Since you are reading this article, then most likely you are not familiar with the technology of wall decoration with bark beetle. So it’s better to start with dry mineral plaster. So you will have the opportunity to work in small portions and “fill your hand”. Acrylic and silicone are good and high quality, but these types of plaster require a more professional approach.

Material calculation

It is believed that, compared with most decorative types of cladding, the decoration of the facade of a private house with bark beetle is approximately in the middle price niche. But the volumes are different for everyone, and before giving preference to the bark beetle, it will not be superfluous to calculate how much it is specifically needed.

The thickness of the layer, respectively, and the volume of the material here directly depends on the diameter of those granules, due to which the pattern is obtained. Naturally, the larger the size, the thicker the layer will be. Next, I give a table of average consumption for dry mineral plaster.

It is no secret that each package has an instruction that indicates the approximate consumption of material. But there is a slight subtlety here, professionals know about it, but for amateurs this is often news.

Ready-made acrylic and silicone plasters are, of course, more expensive, but they also have less consumption. In the table below, I have indicated the average consumption of high-end types of finished material. Cheaper than with mineral plaster, of course, will not work, but still the numbers will not be so frightening.

Bark beetle finishing technology

I will not assure you that this is too easy, because the plastering work itself is quite difficult, and plus it is also dirty. But to be honest, I personally, not being a professional plasterer, mastered this wisdom in half a day. Therefore, there would be a desire, but skill will come quickly. And you need to start with good preparation.

Preparatory work

Bark beetle belongs to the type of finishing plasters, and the first and main condition for applying any finishing plaster it's a perfectly flat surface. If you are very far from such work, then it is better to hire a specialist to bring the wall to your mind. But when money is tight, you can try to do everything yourself.

Of all the ways to level the walls under the bark beetle, I would single out 2 of the simplest and most common. This is plastering on the insulation and leveling the walls along the lighthouses. At one time, I myself started with them.

Often people seek not only to decorate the facade of the house, but also to insulate it. And here the good old PSB-S-25 or Penoplex foam is the best fit, but it is more expensive. Such sheets themselves are even and with their help it is much easier to make an ideal wall.

I will not go into the wilds of technology and will give the simplest instruction:

  • Naturally, it all starts with a standard deep penetration primer coating procedure. You select it for wall material;
  • In the area of the base, it will be necessary to mount a horizontal L-shaped profile. Until the glue sets, this profile will hold the insulation;
  • Next, take Ceresit CT83 construction adhesive, it is designed for styrene-based materials. If your wall is already relatively flat, that is, the height difference does not exceed 10 mm, then arm yourself with a comb spatula and apply glue first to the wall, and then to the insulation sheet.
    When the walls are very curved, then directly on the sheet you throw a few "buns" of glue with an interval of 100 - 150 mm, after which you apply the insulation to the wall;

  • The rows should not match, the slabs are laid like brickwork;
  • Evaluate your work the next day. Small irregularities are rubbed with emery. And if there are gaps somewhere, they will need to be filled with mounting foam and, after it hardens, cut off and also level with emery;
  • Then apply the same Ceresit CT83 glue, in a thin layer on the insulation. And you sink a reinforcing mesh (sickle) into it;
  • To be sure, all this beauty will need to be additionally fixed on the wall with plastic dowels-umbrellas. Then leave everything to dry;
  • The final step is to apply a layer of finishing putty. But under the bark beetle, you can apply another layer of building glue with a thickness of 3 - 4 mm. When it dries, it will be necessary to slightly rub it with emery or plaster mesh, after which we apply the bark beetle itself.

Everyone wants to buy goods cheaper. I try to use the Ceresit brand, the materials there are of high quality, but not cheap. You can choose another brand, but remember, you should stick to one brand, that is, all compounds, primer, start, finish, etc., must be from the same manufacturer. Otherwise, there may be rejection.

Aligning walls with lighthouses is made even easier. Here, after the soil has dried, mount metal or plastic beacons on a plumb line and level on the wall. It is better to install them on gypsum cakes. The distance between the beacons should be 30 - 40 cm less than your plastering rule.

Then you throw a solution with a trowel on the wall, a little higher than the lighthouses. Lean the rule on the beacons and draw them several times along the wall. Lighthouses at the same time play the role of a kind of rail. Where there is not enough, add a solution, remove the excess.

That's basically the whole technology. For indoor work, you can take any type of plaster. But facade cladding in this case, it should be only cement-based, gypsum is not suitable here.

If the bark beetle is settled on drywall, then first it must be primed, and then covered with a thin layer of putty. Otherwise, your beautiful bark beetle will peel off over time.

Apply bark beetle

The technology of wall decoration with bark beetle is quite simple. Before application, a leveled and dry wall must be primed again. For this I use a specialized primer Ceresit CT16, it was specially developed for decorative plasters.

By the way, it is desirable to work in warm calm weather. The recommended temperature range is 10 - 25ºС. In the midday sun or in strong winds, the moisture from the composition will evaporate too quickly, which can lead to cracking.

Initially, the composition is applied in a layer slightly larger than the diameter of the granules themselves. To do this, we use a wide metal spatula or a plaster falcon, this is already convenient for anyone. We put a little solution on the tool, put it at an acute angle to the wall and slowly, moving the tool up, put the bark beetle on the base.

We will “draw” the texture itself using a wooden or plastic grater. The grater is simply applied to the wall and moves in the right direction with a little pressure. You need to press it gradually and rub until you see a clear pattern on a flat surface.

This stage is the most "ticklish". The fact is that if you press too hard on the grater, then the pattern will be drawn, but the base will look through, which is extremely undesirable. And if you begin to stroke too gently, then there will be practically no furrows. And worse, a thin layer of plaster will quickly set.

There is one more nuance in this work. Decorative plaster has a working time range of no more than half an hour. Further in the open air, it begins to harden. Accordingly, the solution must be kneaded only so that it lasts for these half an hour and no more.

Ideally, it is better to work together - while one kneads in small portions, the second produces a solution. But if you had to act in splendid isolation, then the technology of arrangement changes a little.

Whatever the base of the bark beetle, overlapping it is highly undesirable. Such joints will be viewed. Therefore, if you see that you do not have time to join in continuous, wet with wet, then you decide on the processing sector and paste over its borders with masking tape.

While you are mixing a new batch of mortar, the finished sector will already dry out, and you can glue a new tape of tape on top of its border. Thus, the new and old plaster will be joined end-to-end without overlap.

The most difficult thing here is to clearly maintain the thickness so that the border is not visible. But this feeling comes only with experience.

Often, bark beetle plaster itself is white. And only then it is tinted to the desired one. The tinting process is not complicated, but has its own subtleties. Personally, I always recommend that you finish the job and only after the walls are completely dry, paint them in the color you need.

Although now many shopping centers offer tinting finished acrylic and silicone decorative plaster in the desired color as a bonus. It's definitely a good thing. Saves a lot of time, and you do not need to buy paint.

But if you decide to take such a step, then the composition must be taken completely for the entire facade, plus with a margin, at least 5 - 7%. After all, you yourself understand, if you don’t have enough, then taking the same shade will be almost impossible. In addition, when the walls are dry, they should in any case be covered with a reinforcing primer.

I had to face one interesting case. The bark beetle is usually painted with facade acrylic paint. So, some owners wished to apply a transparent lacquer on top of this paint, to which, moreover, fine mica was added.

The option is acceptable, but as for me it's too outrageous. When the varnish dried, the mica shone in the sun like a Christmas tree.

What drawing do you need

You may have noticed that the bark beetle differs not only in the depth and frequency of the furrows, but also in the pattern itself. Finishing options are different, to be precise, there are only 6 of them. I will describe them from simple to complex.

Actually the technology in all cases is almost the same. Simply put, as you move the grater, you will get such a drawing.

  1. Of course, the most simple and accessible for a novice master is a vertically oriented drawing. There is nothing to philosophize here, just rub the wall up and down;
  2. The next relatively simple way of arranging is the so-called lamb. The grater moves in small circular motions over the entire plane. It is convenient in that you do not need to maintain the direction. Plus, leveling the surface is much more convenient;
  3. It is easy to guess that horizontal stripes are made by horizontal movements of the grater. Although this method is a little more complicated than the previous ones. You will draw the ornament itself, but it is difficult to maintain the same layer thickness on the horizontal;

  1. 444The rain ornament is applied diagonally or at an angle. And you can believe me, here it is very difficult to clearly maintain the direction of the drawing on all planes, it is better for amateurs not to undertake this work;
  2. One of the most difficult is the design called carpet. Not only are the lines drawn diagonally, they must also go simultaneously in two directions and intersect at right angles;
  3. Now we got to the most difficult option, the world map. This is the name of a fragmented design, this is when different sectors are drawn in different styles and colors. It is better for a novice master to forget these difficulties immediately.

Those who are thinking about making a bark beetle with their own hands or hiring craftsmen should remember that now the price of finishing 1 m² with only one bark beetle, without taking into account or any other preparation of the base, ranges from 600 to 1000 rubles. It all depends on the region and the appetite of the master himself.

Conclusion

Self-finishing the facade of a private house with a bark beetle is not an easy task, but believe me, it is quite doable. The photo and video in this article provides additional material on the bark beetle. If you still have any questions, write them in the comments, we'll talk.

Produce decorative plaster and based on gypsum. Gypsum plaster is sold as a dry mix, requiring dilution and proper cooking. Acrylic - ready to use. It is more convenient to use, but the price will be higher than the price of a dry mix. Therefore, if you buy decorative bark beetle plaster in a dry form and prepare it correctly, it will not be worse in quality than acrylic. But the cost of the material will be less.

What is it made from. How to calculate the amount of material

The material is produced from a dry mixture (cement) and marble, quartz or mineral chips of various abrasiveness. The best is considered to be plaster with marble filler. The size of the crumb is from 0.1 to 3.5 mm. From this, the finished surface will be either coarse-grained or fine-grained. For finishing small rooms it is better to use plaster with fine filler. If the room is large, then the size of the granules may be large. The larger the granule size, the greater the material consumption. This is taken into account when preparing the solution. More often used plaster with an abrasiveness of 2.5 mm. It is with the help of such a solution that it is possible to make a variety of drawings. This is done easily and the boundaries of such drawings are very accurate. To prepare a mortar with a grain size of 2.5 mm, 3 kg of plaster per 1 sq.m. If you use material with a larger crumb, for example, 3.5 mm in size, the consumption will be 4 kg per 1 sq.m.

For strength and fixing the texture, acrylic and fibers of polymeric materials are added to the plaster.

Creating a color tone

To obtain the desired color of the acrylic material, you will need tinting. If the estimated volume is large, then in order to obtain a uniform beautiful shade, it is better to contact specialists and use special devices. Dry plaster does not require special tinting and its consumption is less. To give it the desired color, just add paint when preparing the solution. Or you can paint the surface after the plaster has dried with a brush or fur roller. But not earlier than three days later, when the coating dries. Quickly and beautifully paint with a spray gun. It's up to you. If you are going to work with bark beetle decorative plaster on your own, you are better off choosing a dry mix, as it is easier to work with. The powder is diluted with water with continuous stirring. When the required density is reached, close the container tightly in case of hot weather. The application of ready-made acrylic plaster has its own characteristics, which specialists can better handle.

Solution preparation

In order to properly prepare the dry mix yourself, you need to follow the cooking instructions exactly. Add exactly the amount of water indicated. The dry mixture is slowly poured into a container with water and mixed well with a special construction mixer. The water must be at a certain temperature. 15 to 20 degrees. Kneading must be done in several passes. The mixture must swell to the desired density, otherwise the result will not be the one that is needed.

Surface preparation rules and mortar application features

Regardless of where you are going to use the plaster - for interior or exterior work, the air temperature should not be high. Rapid drying of the solution interferes with work. Also, you will not be able to hide the docking points well.

Before applying the composition, the surface must be carefully prepared. At high humidity, it will be useful to treat the surfaces with an antifungal solution. The surface must first be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dust. All irregularities must be leveled, cracks covered with putty. Then prime. The shade of the paint-primer must match the shade of the filler to avoid showing through the bulk. The primer must contain quartz sand, which contributes to excellent adhesion of the material to the surface to be treated. After drying, after five to six hours, you can start plastering. Work should be done without interruption to avoid unevenness at the joints of fresh and already dried plaster. If you still have to interrupt the process - you can cover the freshly plastered part with a film - so it will remain raw longer.

Apply "Bark beetle" with a grater or spatula at an angle of 60 degrees to the surface. The thickness of the layer depends on the evenness of the surface and the grain size of the material. The finished pattern will depend on how the solution is applied - along, randomly, across, in circular or crossed movements. It is very interesting to work, because when smoothing and rubbing the coma to a thin layer (about a few mm), the texture begins to appear under your hands. The baby fits into intricate shapes and creates interesting patterns. Additional strokes can be added to them with a grater, using it with different pressures. You can start creating a textured pattern only after some time, when the solution stops sticking to the spatula. The wait can take from five minutes to half an hour. It depends on temperature and humidity. In order for the texture of the wall pattern to turn out to be homogeneous, it is recommended that one person perform the relief work.

When working, it is necessary to close the finished layer with polyethylene until completely dry in order to protect it from the sun, rain and various mechanical damage. Surface drying time - 2-3 days. But the final surface will harden only after 2-3 weeks. If the application technology is performed correctly, then appearance home will delight you for many years.

Plaster is combined with any building and finishing materials - brick, concrete, sandwich panels or natural wood. Depending on the combination of plaster with different materials, the appearance of the room may be different. A beautiful combination is obtained with ceramic tiles, artificial stone and vinyl wallpaper. The result will depend on desire, imagination, diligence and patience.

Important!

Although decorative plaster has a huge number of advantages, it, like finishing mineral coatings, is not a material with elasticity. Therefore, if you are going to use it to finish the facade of a newly built house, you need to wait for complete shrinkage. Otherwise, cracks may occur from movements during shrinkage along the facade. But even this situation is not critical, since these damages are subject to restoration.

Manufacturers

Nowadays, on the building materials market, the choice of decorative plaster with the “bark beetle” effect is huge. The most famous are Austrian-made Baumit, Ceresit, an excellent quality material made in Germany. Russian manufacturers of "Eunice" also released material on the market that is in no way inferior in quality to European counterparts. If all recommendations are followed, a high-quality solution is obtained, ready for use. The price of the product is available to the buyer.

Summing up, we can say with confidence that when choosing decorative bark beetle plaster for finishing, you choose:

  • Affordable material
  • Easy to use
  • The ability to create an interesting appearance of the room,
  • Durable in operation, adapted to weather conditions and temperature,
  • Does not fade in the sun and retains its original color,
  • Environmentally friendly material that does not contain harmful additives,
  • Achieve the desired color either by mixing the solution or after drying,
  • Due to the addition of polymeric substances instead of grains of sand, the lightweight material does not create an additional load on building structure,
  • Resistance to mechanical influences. Can be washed with a damp cloth, cleaned and vacuumed.

It just so happens that the material literally immortalized the well-known name of the tiny insect - bark beetle plaster has become a very common way of premises and facades of buildings. And the point here is not the exoticism of its name, just the appearance of this decorative coating is very colorful.

1 Bark beetle plaster and its characteristic features

The wood borer, although small, carries out a very, very destructive activity, turning any wood, whether it be a log or a massive board, into an interweaving of hollow channels-tunnels. On the one hand, such an intrusion into the structure to a large extent reduces its strength, but on the other hand, panels made from such damaged wood are of a certain value.

Indeed, on the cut, quite interesting patterns are obtained from depressions of various shapes. Bark beetle plaster looks exactly the same, the technology for applying it to it is represented by many training videos. Of course, the texture of the plastered surface turns out to be so peculiar not because the wood borer worked on it.

Plaster under the bark beetle, in general, practically does not differ from any other decorative one, its only feature is marble chips, due to which a heterogeneous structured surface is obtained. Video tutorials about applying bark beetle plaster are quite common, and they clearly demonstrate that the sequence of actions is quite standard.

2 Facade plaster Bark beetle - another way to decorate a house

In order to finish the outer walls of the house under the wooden panels eaten by the bug, there is no need to somehow prepare the surface before starting work. On the contrary, if a primer is required indoors, then outside it is enough just to clean the area to be treated from dust, moisten it thoroughly, and after an hour you can start applying the mixture.

Of course, bark beetle facade plaster, which depends entirely on the brand, must be mixed in advance, and immediately before finishing it must be thoroughly mixed, since marble chips tend to sink to the bottom. The surface itself, on which you are going to apply the bark beetle texture, plays an important role. Today, many people insulate the house with polystyrene foam, after which they try to plaster it directly on it in the above way.

As a rule, the result is impartial - it cracks. The thing is that before applying the bark beetle plaster, it is necessary to plaster the wall with the usual composition, and before that, sickle is glued to the foam for better adhesion. After a week, when the base coat sets, you can start decorating.

3 Structural plaster Bark beetle - application and processing technique

So, the base is prepared, it dried out well, and the shrinkage has already ended, it's time to start priming. It is better to apply the penetration composition, at the same time it will strengthen the base finishing layer, and provide good adhesion to the decorative one. It is more convenient to apply with a roller, the interval between two layers should be from 6 to 12 hours for different compositions. Before the bark beetle structural plaster is applied to the prepared surface, make sure that it is dry, it is better to wait 6 hours to be sure.

If the liquid absorption of the surface is high, it is better to prime the walls and/or ceiling twice.

How bark beetle plaster is prepared, and what is the application technique, the video tutorial will tell you in the best way, but in theory it looks like this. The mixture is sold in dry form, but it is already ready, just pour water in the proportion indicated on the bag, some are diluted directly in bags, although it is more convenient in a special container, in any case, use a mixer or a special nozzle on a drill.

A decorative coating is applied in a uniform, even layer, the thickness of which should not exceed the size of the grains of marble chips. You should immediately cover the entire wall or separate the area to be treated with masking tape, so that after removing the latter, a clear border is obtained. When a homogeneous, even layer is obtained, we wait about half an hour and begin to rub the surface with a plastic grater until the desired texture is obtained.

Movements can be vertical, horizontal and circular, the main thing is to press the tool lightly and move it along a wide path. The finished bark beetle plaster becomes neutral and dark gray in color, so as a finishing touch, prime and paint the wall again, and to increase the water-repellent properties, cover with a special wax with a roller.

Decorative plaster bark beetle (ceresit). rules of use and experience of application.

The use of bark beetle (Ceresit) decorative plaster in the decoration of facades and rooms allows you to get away from the uniformity of finishing and achieve a modern interior solution that will successfully combine high performance and decorative qualities.

Bark beetle plaster is a mixture of white or gray color, which includes small pebbles - granules, betraying the surface with a beautiful texture. The appearance of the work performed depends on the size of the granules. finishing works, while it should be taken into account that the material with small pebbles is mainly used for interior decoration inside buildings, and plaster with larger granules decorates facades.

The main advantages of decorative bark beetle plaster include its high resistance to mechanical stress, as well as frost resistance and vapor permeability. Vapor permeability is especially important when finishing facades insulated with vapor-permeable insulation. All this together allows this modern material confidently occupy a leading position in the market of finishing finishing mixtures.

The bark beetle of the brand is produced in light colors (white and gray), taking into account the possibility of further painting the plaster in the desired color. The buyer can always purchase plaster, based on their requirements, and spend money more rationally.

Now directly about the technology of applying decorative plaster Bark beetle. This work belongs to the average complexity of execution, so you can do it yourself, especially if you have at least a little experience in finishing. Getting ready to start essential tool

Metal spatulas of various widths,

polyurethane grater,

Drill - mixer, (more powerful),

A clean plastic (!) container for kneading.

Before applying the bark beetle, it is necessary to prepare the wall. To do this, we check it for the presence of chips and large cracks, upon detection of which we seal them with cement plaster mortar. Use where necessary plaster mesh or fabric - sickle. Then we prime the base with a special primer containing fine quartz sand so that the surface of the wall becomes rough and the bark beetle does not slip during grinding. At the same time, we do not miss the manufacturer's recommendations (they are available on the original packaging) and apply the primer only with a wide brush, excluding the use of a roller.

Now is the time to knead the decorative plaster, for which we pour the mixture into the prepared container with water and knead with a mixer at medium speed. You should not try to speed up the process by increasing the speed of rotation of the mixer, since in this case the solution will be aerated, a lot of air bubbles will form in it and the plaster will deteriorate. The finished mixture should be homogeneous without inclusions of poorly mixed material.

Bark beetle is applied with a wide metal spatula to the thickness of the granules in any convenient direction and without gaps. It is necessary to control the thickness of the plaster layer, because with its increase, difficulties may arise during grinding, when the polyurethane grater simply does not reach the grain and the surface texture remains smooth. The application and, accordingly, grinding of the bark beetle must be carried out immediately over the entire plane, otherwise the joints will be noticeable. In cases where the wall is too large to finish it at one time, trim the plaster with a spatula or masking tape.

Grinding begins 20 - 40 minutes after application at the moment when the bark beetle is just beginning to set. The future texture of the surface depends on the amplitude and direction of movement of the hand during grinding, so you should not experiment while working, but think in advance which texture suits you best for solving the interior issue. It will be even better if you manage to practice a little on some wall, work out the movements to create the texture you need.

After completing the work, immediately wash the working tool and remove the remnants of the material from or the ground if the work was carried out on the facade, since then it will be problematic to do so. If the work was carried out with a white bark beetle, then its further painting is not needed, and if you chose a gray material, then after 48 - 72 hours it can be painted with any acrylic paint, not forgetting that a waterproof coating must be used when finishing the facade.

Decorative plaster bark beetle

Represents a high quality construction material, which allows you to create decorative coatings on the surface of the walls. Decorative plaster "Bark beetle" is an excellent option for facades and plinths of buildings. At the same time, bark beetle plaster can be effectively used indoors. This decorative material has a number of excellent properties, both in terms of design and technology.

After application, decorative bark beetle plaster does not require finishing puttying. A very diverse range of colors "Bark beetle" makes it easier to make a choice. Decorative plaster has high strength to atmospheric and mechanical influences. This decorative coating has a very high resistance to water, so it can be easily washed. Decorative plaster "Bark beetle" is not afraid of temperature changes. "Bark beetle" perfectly withstands temperatures from -55 to +60 degrees Celsius. Color "Bark beetle" resistant to fading in the sun.

Decorative plaster "Bark beetle" it is used for brick, concrete, plasterboard surfaces, as well as for covering hard fiber boards, sandwich panels and chipboard. The surface plastered with "Bark beetle" has a furrowed appearance, hence the name.

In its composition, decorative bark beetle plaster does not contain solvents and plasticizers hazardous to health. The plaster is perfectly soluble in water and has a pleasant smell. Decorative "Bark beetle" does not emit any harmful substances and does not affect human health. The bark beetle is applied very easily, after application it dries quickly. Decorative plaster is resistant to alkalis, acids and various industrial gases.

Decorative plaster "Bark beetle" contains in its composition copolymer synthetic acrylic dispersions, titanium dioxide, Omyacarb chalk and marble chips (grain size from 0.1 mm to 3.5 mm). Basically "Bark beetle" is produced white color. There is a possibility of tinting, which is carried out with the help of FEIDAL Vollton and Abtoenfarbe full-tone paints.

Decorative plaster is applied to a previously prepared surface. The surface is cleaned of grease, dust, various oils and contaminants. With the FEIDAL Schimmel-Ex anti-mold agent, the surface is easily cleaned of fungus, mold and moss. It is recommended to pre-level and dry the surface. Before the beginning decorative finishes surfaces it is recommended to fill with putty all cracks, cracks, and irregularities. For better application of decorative plaster, a thin layer of primer should be applied, which should dry for at least six hours.

For outdoor work, on concrete, cement-sand and cement-lime plasters, preliminary priming before applying decorative bark beetle plaster is not necessary. An hour before starting work with plaster, the base should be abundantly moistened.

At internal works with "Bark beetle", bases made of drywall, moisture-resistant chipboard, gypsum, cement-lime and cement plasters, must be treated with a primer. Lime and glue paint coatings must be removed. The old layer of polymer or oil coatings should be removed mechanically or with the help of solvents, after which a primer layer should be applied. As primers can be used Ceresit ST 16.

To prepare the decorative mixture "Bark beetle", the water must have a temperature of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. The dry mixture is gradually added to the water, mixing thoroughly so that there are no lumps. Mix the mixture with a mixer or with a drill with a special nozzle designed for viscous substances. The rotation speed should be between 400 and 800 rpm. After the first mixing, a pause is maintained for 5 minutes - this is necessary for the maturation of the decorative mixture. The mixture is then stirred again. From the moment of preparation, decorative plaster should be used within 60 minutes.

The required consistency is selected using a table that indicates the ratio of the amount of water and dry mixture. Do not add water during operation. To prevent the solution from hardening, it must be stirred periodically.

Decorative plaster "Bark beetle" is applied with a grater made of stainless steel. The grater should be tilted at an angle of 60 degrees to the surface to be treated. The thickness of the applied layer depends on the grain of the mineral filler. After the mortar does not stick to the tool, the surface of the plaster is formed with a wooden or plastic float. The furrows can be vertical, horizontal, cross or circular, depending on the trajectory and amplitude of the grater's movement. When forming the texture of the surface, the movements should be light and sliding, without unnecessary pressure.

Decorative plaster is applied continuously. If there is a need to leave and stop work, you should stick a masking tape. Not hardened remains of decorative plaster can be removed with water, and already dried ones are removed mechanically. Working temperature with bark beetle plaster should be from +5 to +30 degrees Celsius, at relative air humidityno more than 80 percent. Colored plaster is applied at temperatures from +9 to +30 degrees. In others, bark beetle plaster can dry very quickly.

When working with decorative bark beetle plaster, gloves should be worn. This will protect the hands from exposure to the material. The fact is that decorative plaster contains cement, which, when interacting with ordinary water, gives an alkaline reaction. If, during operation, the decorative mixture gets into the eyes, rinse them with water as soon as possible and be sure to consult a doctor.

When working with decorative bark beetle plaster, it is necessary to be guided by SNiP 3.04.01-87"Insulating and Finishing Coatings".

If decorative plaster is applied to the exterior of a building, places exposed to direct sunlight, rain or wind should be avoided. Within three days, the new coating should not be exposed to rain and sunlight.

For decoration with multi-colored plaster, you should use it from one batch. In this case, water from one source must be used. White variant plasters can be painted. Painting should be done silicate paint. But, not earlier than three days after applying the bark beetle plaster, and acrylic paints can be used only after two weeks.

In case of non-compliance with the technology of working with decorative plaster, "Bark beetle" is not responsible. Before starting finishing work, you should seek advice from experienced professionals.

The shelf life of Bark beetle plaster in dry conditions, in undamaged original packaging on pallets, is 12 months. Stucco is sold in bags of 25 kg. Consumption of "Bark beetle" depends on the mineral grain: grain 3.5 mm - 3.5-4.0 kg/m2; grain 2.5 mm - 2.5-3.0 kg / m2.

Plaster "Bark beetle" can be of various shades. All colors are conventionally divided into series. In addition, within the series there are shades. If the area of the room to be treated is large, then dark-colored decorative plaster should not be used.

Decorative plaster "Bark beetle" is widely used in modern construction. Bark beetle is easy to work with and has wide versatility. Thanks to this, the use of decorative plaster allows you to achieve amazing results in decorating, both inside and outside. The use of decorative bark beetle plaster in your premises will allow you to enjoy the exclusive and beautiful view ceilings and walls.

What is this material?

There are two types of decorative bark beetle plaster - and gypsum-based. If acrylic plaster is sold ready-made, then in the form of a mixture of dry ingredients. If you try to describe this material in general, then it can be described as a composite plaster containing small granular stones.

Each manufacturer has its own recipe, but usually mineral chips or marble are used as granules in bark beetle decorative plaster. Depending on the size of the crumb, the size of which is from 0.1 to 3.5 millimeters, the material will differ in graininess.

Now consider the advantages that bark beetle decorative plaster has.

Material characteristics

  • the use of mineral filler and polymer components instead of sand gives the finished composition lightness, which avoids unnecessary load on the structural elements of the building;
  • decorative bark beetle plaster is environmentally friendly, because does not contain any harmful substances;
  • it withstands ambient temperatures from minus 55°C to plus 60°C, does not fade in the sun, is fire resistant and does not emit toxic substances when exposed to high temperatures;
  • decorative bark beetle plaster is durable, not susceptible to mold, resistant to weak chemicals and aqueous solutions, it can be washed with water and it is not destroyed by precipitation;
  • decorative bark beetle plaster is resistant to mechanical stress, it can be wiped with a sponge, cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, it will withstand mild blows;
  • the main color is white, the desired color can be obtained by diluting or mixing by adding dyes, it is well painted with paints after drying;
  • prevalence and availability - bark beetle plaster, which is quite democratic, is available for general sale.

Application possibilities

As can be understood from the above characteristics of this decorative mixture, the possibilities for its use are extremely high. It has already been noted that it can be used both for interior decoration and for exterior. Below are examples of usage and the resulting result.

In addition, the picture that will turn out in the end will depend on your desire. This is determined by the nature of the movements by which the decorative bark beetle plaster is applied, and its subsequent grouting, i.e. when movements are performed along or across the surface to be treated, in waves or in a chaotic arrangement of the pattern. Or even quite possible to depict a wall painting. Various finishes are shown below:

Of course, the given examples of material properties are far from exhausted. In any case, they give an idea of what can be obtained through the competent and correct use of the opportunities provided. Do not forget that additional effects can be obtained by painting the finished surface.

Material selection

Before starting work on finishing surfaces, you must select the material that you will use. There are many manufacturers, each with its own recipe and composition, but when choosing, you need to pay attention to the grain size and type of plaster. The graininess will determine the depth and width of the grooves obtained when creating a pattern and, accordingly, will set the resulting texture.

When choosing a grain size, one must take into account the peculiarity that bark beetle decorative plaster has - the consumption depends on the size of the grain. A material with a grain size of 3.5 millimeters has a higher consumption than a material with a grain size of 2.5 millimeters.

Then you need to choose the type of plaster - dry mix or ready-to-use. The finished mixture, of course, is more convenient to use, but it is also more expensive at a price. It uses synthetic fillers (acrylic, silicone). However, a properly prepared mineral "bark beetle" is in no way inferior to the finished mixture. Thus, the decorative bark beetle plaster that you decide is only yours for your plans and imagination.

Where can I apply decorative "Bark beetle"?

It is clear that it is necessary to apply such plaster on surfaces with which it will have good adhesion (adhesion). Therefore, it is useless to apply it to glass, the walls of an iron garage. But stone, brick, concrete, drywall - just such surfaces on which this material will lie down without any problems.

By itself, such plaster is a final finish, so it should not be used to seal cracks or holes in walls or ceilings. Yes, you can apply "Bark beetle" on the ceilings. An example of this can be seen in the photo below:

The ceiling is finished with decorative plaster "Bark beetle"

It should be noted that the technology for applying bark beetle decorative plaster is quite simple, and almost anyone can work with it, you just need to follow certain rules and carefully perform all operations.

How to apply "Bark beetle", a description of the process

To work with plaster you will need:

  • bucket;
  • a set of spatulas;
  • plastic grater;
  • a drill equipped with a mixing nozzle “mixer”;
  • directly plaster "bark beetle".

Surface preparation

Before decorative bark beetle plaster is applied to the selected surface with your own hands, it must be prepared. It is cleaned of dust, grease, any oils, dirt and mold. After that, it must be leveled, all cracks and holes must be filled with putty. The resulting plane should be even, the irregularities should not exceed the grain size of the plaster.

Before applying bark beetle decorative plaster, it is necessary to apply a primer paint on the base, which should have the same shade as the color of the plaster. Such a primer will provide good adhesion in the future, and will not shine through the bulk. Drying time is about four to six hours, after which you can start plastering. The best result is obtained when materials from the same manufacturer are used at all stages.

As for specific brands, then, for example, decorative plaster ceresite bark beetle for surface preparation requires a primer having the brand CT16.

In the case when the outer surface is plastered, it is not necessary to prime it.

Preparing the mixture

If a dry mixture will be used for work, then it must be diluted according to the available instructions. General rules while these are:

  • you need to pour the plaster into the water, and not vice versa;
  • water temperature should be (15-20)°С;
  • it is necessary to mix the resulting mass using a mixer or a drill with a nozzle;
  • after reaching the desired consistency, let the mixture stand for a few minutes, and then mix everything again.

Each plaster has its own expiration date in a diluted state, indicated on the package. It will not be possible to “renew” it with the addition of water, so you need to dilute as much as you can use in the specified time.

Application of the decorative mixture "Bark beetle"

“Bark beetle” is applied with a grater. It must be placed at an angle of 60 ° to the surface to be treated and spread the plaster over the surface. The thickness of the layer applied to the plane will depend on the grain size of the plaster. After the mixture stops sticking to the tool, a pattern is formed on the surface using a wooden or plastic grater.

The pattern (furrows) can be horizontal, vertical, crossed, circular, this is determined by the pattern you choose. The drawing and the movements with which it is performed are shown in the photo below:

Among the variety of finishing materials, bark beetle facade plaster has gained wide popularity, primarily for the uniqueness of the pattern, as can be seen in numerous photos, and simple application technique. A rich color palette and finishes make it possible to give the outer walls any color and shade.

1 What are the advantages of decorating houses with bark beetle

Recently, designers have increased interest in retro style, so they often reflect this trend in the interior. The photo shows the outer and interior decoration. And the technique of applying plaster called "Bark beetle" best of all emphasizes the stylistic direction. It gives the impression of an old wooden surface, on which the wood borer left traces of its work in the form of winding grooves of different directions and depths. The photo clearly shows such grooves. This finish has a lot of advantages compared to other types of wall decoration:

  • Large selection of color palette.
  • Possibility of use both outside and inside.
  • This finish is not afraid of moisture, so the surface can be washed.
  • The plaster has sufficient mechanical and chemical resistance to environmental influences.
  • It can be easily applied to all surfaces of the house that have a sufficient degree of adhesion to the mortar.
  • It can be superimposed on a layer of insulation when finishing facades, which is clearly visible in the photo.
  • Plastered surfaces are well tolerated by temperature changes during the change of seasons.
  • Made from natural materials and is an environmentally friendly product
  • fireproof
  • Due to the thin layer of application, it is vapor-permeable
  • Doesn't require a lot of money.

It is noted that such a material has a high resistance to ultraviolet radiation. But even in case of fading, the finish can be easily stained.

2 How to choose a quality mixture

Before you purchase a plaster mixture that is used to finish the facade of a house, you need to know that it is produced in two versions - based on gypsum or acrylic. Gypsum plaster is produced, as a rule, in dry form and is sold in bags of different weights. This material is usually white or gray in color and requires both in-house preparation and additional tinting. But its cost is much lower than acrylic-based mixtures. The consumption of such a dry mixture is indicated on the packaging.

The second type of bark beetle plaster, used for finishing the facade of the house, is supplied to retail chains ready for use and packaged in plastic containers, these containers are visible in the photo in the form of buckets. On the surface of the buckets, all information on the use of the material and also the consumption per 1 sq. m. This mixture includes silicone or acrylic, which gives the composition greater plasticity, tinting pigments and natural stone granules of various sizes. It is these granules in the process of applying the material that create the effect of the Bark beetle, which is clearly visible in the video tutorial.

When choosing a finishing material, pay attention to the size of the granules, since the plaster consumption depends on it. A large grain diameter will also require a greater consumption of bark beetle plaster per m2 of the area of the house. If you purchase a finished mass with one shade or another, you must ensure that all buckets are from the same batch. In this case, the finish will be the same over the entire surface and not have differences in shades.

Today, building stores offer a wide selection of decorative mixtures of this type, which are used as decoration for the exterior and interior walls of the house. These can be products of foreign manufacturers and domestic ones, which is confirmed by the cost of the material. However, do not think that the higher the price of plaster, the better it is. By and large, the composition of any mixture contains the same starting materials, so their specifications differ little from each other.

In addition to purchasing the finishing material you will need a primer, which is better to choose the same manufacturer as the main product. It will enhance the adhesion of the solution to the surface being trimmed. Primer consumption is indicated on the package.

3 Preparatory work

The technology for applying bark beetle plaster implies a clean and even surface, which must also be durable, reliable and hard. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out all the work to level the walls and seal large potholes, cracks, strengthen the moving sections of the old plaster, and if there is an insulating layer, lay a reinforcing mesh, as shown in the photo, and plaster with a cement-sand mortar.

Given that the thickness of the decorative layer "Bark beetle" is determined by the size of the granules, small defects can be hidden by the finishing mass, but large ones will have to be corrected first.

The prepared surface must be treated with a primer with a roller or brush and allowed to dry. In this case, the color of the primer must match the color of the finishing decorative layer, and its consumption depends on the degree of absorption of the solution by the wall surface. Plaster can also be applied to surfaces where it has not been produced. In this case, the surface of the wall of the house must be moistened with water an hour before the start of the main work.

After the surface of the house is fully prepared for applying bark beetle plaster, it is necessary to make a mortar. If you have a dry mix, then you will need pure water with temperature +17-20℃. Dry plaster powder is added in small portions to water, the material consumption is maintained according to the manufacturer's recommendations. It is easier to mix the mixture with a special nozzle "mixer" worn on an electric drill. You should not make large batches, since the finished mixture tends to harden within 2-3 hours, so the amount of diluted plaster must be correlated with your capabilities. So the consumption of the source material will be more economical.

If the solution thickens, do not add water, so as not to reduce the technical characteristics of the material. And in order to keep the mixture plastic a little longer, you just need to mix it periodically.

4 Technique for applying plaster Bark beetle

Works are allowed to be carried out at an ambient temperature not lower than +5 ℃ and not higher than +30 ℃. At the same time, it is not recommended to finish surfaces in direct sunlight in order to avoid rapid hardening of the solution.

The finished mass is applied to a metal spatula, which should be at an angle of approximately 60 ° relative to the wall, and rubbed over the surface in a circular motion. The process, as seen in the photo, resembles the usual one. The difference is that when puttying, we need the surface to become perfectly smooth, but here, on the contrary, it will be with different grooves and roughness. Such a structure is formed due to the fact that the granules, rolling under the plane of the grater, leave paths behind them, so similar to the traces of woodworm work in ancient wooden walls at home. Depending on the direction of movement of the grater, you can create a wide variety of patterns - circular, transverse, vertical or in a chaotic manner.

To understand the exact application technique, you need to watch the video tutorial. The work is done in small sections, so you need to do it as quickly as possible, before the mixture sets, so that the joints of the sections are invisible. If you need to take a long break in work, then a masking tape is glued to the edge of the finished piece of wall. When resuming work, this tape is removed. In case of strong hardening of the solution at the end of work, the joint is cleaned with a spatula.

At the drying stage, the plaster layer is polished with a plastic float until the mortar does not stick to its surface. The final step will be grouting the joints so that the surface resembles a single monolithic plane.

At your request, the finished walls can be painted after 3-4 days, choosing the color and tone from the presented photos of houses. Painting should be done with silicone, acrylic or water-based formulations, the consumption of which is usually indicated by the manufacturer.

Decorative plaster bark beetle is perhaps one of the most interesting and original surface. This material with a speaking name looks like a worn tree and is used for both indoor and outdoor work. Various irregularities give the plaster a colorful look and help create a cozy and calm atmosphere in the house. It's no secret that a monotonous (especially shiny) surface is quite annoying, while the bark beetle is able to bring peace and tranquility.

How is the bark beetle effect achieved? In many ways, a similar texture is achieved thanks to the marble chips that are part of it. During application with a spatula, the same crumb "scratches" the furrows, due to which oblong and narrow recesses are obtained. The width and depth of the furrow directly depends on the size of the grains, which, in turn, range from 0.1 to 3.5 mm. That is, the composition can include both small and larger grains of sand. Today, the most popular option is bark beetle with crumbs from 2 to 2.5 mm.

Characteristics of bark beetle plaster

As mentioned earlier, the material is used both for internal and external work. This versatility is associated with superior performance. Let's take a closer look:

  1. Weather resistance. The bark beetle withstands temperatures from -55 to +60, does not fade in the sun, does not weather and does not get wet in the rain.
  2. Hides small defects and uneven walls.
  3. Resistance to mechanical damage: it is difficult to damage or scratch it.
  4. Resistance to aggressive environments. At the same time, the bark beetle does not emit harmful substances, which makes it environmentally friendly.
  5. Durability. Indoors, the material is able to maintain its original appearance for up to 15 years, and outside for up to 7 years.
  6. The surface covered with plaster can be easily repainted with acrylic or water-based paint. This is very convenient, because for many years you will want to refresh the interior in the house.
  7. Easy care: can be washed with a cloth, brush or even a vacuum cleaner.

How to choose bark beetle plaster

The material is available in bags (as a dry mix) and in pails (paste mixes). This must be taken into account, because with the finished mixture there will be fewer problems, but it also costs more. This is due to the fact that the material is prepared with the addition of synthetic fillers.

Most often on the market you will find material in white, although sometimes you can stumble upon other colors. What is it for? It's simple - if desired, the mixture can acquire any shade and this can be done in several ways. The first is to add the dye to the plaster mass during kneading, and the second is to decorate the already dried surface. A feature of the material is unlimited decorative possibilities, because the “exhausted” pattern can be applied in various ways: crosswise, in circles, waves, or even randomly. At the same time, the material is quite simple to work with and is able to hide minor errors that you can make during the application process.

Today there is a great demand for decorative plaster on the market and each manufacturer is trying to praise his products with everyone. possible ways. But in fact, if the technology was maintained during the manufacture of the material, then there simply cannot be a significant difference in quality. Therefore, when choosing decorative plaster, be guided by your own taste and carefully read the finished samples. Imported plaster practically does not differ in quality from domestic manufacturers, but it’s still not worth saving. After all, the cheaper the material, the more likely it is that the production technology was not sustained or was completely produced in an artisanal way.

What else should be considered when choosing bark beetle plaster? Well, first of all, you need to know that the material consumption may differ and depends on the diameter of the mineral grain, which is part of it. For example, with a grain diameter of 2.5 mm, you will need 3 kg of plaster per 1 m 2, and with a grain size of 3.5 mm - 4 kg / m 2.

Scope and preparation of bark beetle plaster

The material is used both for wall decoration and for ceiling decoration. It can be used on any surface that is capable of adhesion (in other words, adhesion) and will not bend during operation: drywall, brick, concrete, chipboard, cement plaster, etc. Bark beetle is a top coat and is applied in a small layer (slightly larger than the diameter of the grain), so do not try to fill large cracks and holes in the walls.

The bark beetle is applied to a flat, primed and clean surface. Therefore, if there are traces of paint, lime or other materials, they must be removed.

The technology of applying the bark beetle and methods of its preparation are described in detail in the instructions on the purchased material. That is what she needs to be guided by. But the general instructions will be as follows:

  • when preparing the mixture, the plaster is poured into the water, and not vice versa;
  • water should be warm, about 20 ° C;
  • The solution is mixed with a drill with a mixer nozzle and at low speed;
  • you shouldn’t do it manually, you still won’t be able to stir it well;
  • stirring occurs until the moment when no lumps are noticeable. After that, the material needs to stand for about 5 minutes and mix it again;
  • proportions of water, dry plaster mixture and the duration of use of the bark beetle depend on the specific brand and are indicated in the instructions. One mixture can already set in an hour, while the other can lie quietly in a container for three hours. At the same time, it will not work to refresh with the help of adding water. That's why it's so important to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Applying decorative plaster

  1. A small amount of the mixture is applied to the surface and smeared with a uniform, thin layer.
  2. After the material thickens (this is about 30 minutes), it is necessary to walk on the surface with a grater with light and sliding movements. This is necessary to align the layer and create a picture. Beginners can use simpler, more traditional types of drawings: rain, waves, circles, etc. The main thing is confident and soft movements, do not put too much pressure on the grater. Remember, the longer the bark beetle is rolled out, the less noticeable the pattern will be, the surface will become glossy and the plaster effect will be lost.
  3. When working on a large surface, it is advisable to enlist the help of a friend: one applies the plaster, and the other rubs the surface. Bark beetle is quite simple to apply, even beginners are able to cope with a similar task.
  4. The recommended working room temperature should remain between +5 and +25 degrees. But if a multi-colored coating acts as a mixture, then the room should not be colder than +10 degrees.
  5. It is desirable to apply the plaster without interruption, in one go. But if circumstances force, then a masking tape should be glued on the border of the applied mixture, so the material does not dry out. Depending on the brand, the bark beetle dries from 1 to 5 days. After that, you can start coloring. If this is used acrylic paint, then 5 days will not be enough, you should wait a couple of weeks. And for silicate and 3 days will be enough.

We check the quality. Well-done work is immediately visible: no joints, no "glosiness", the surface is textured. Otherwise, cracks may appear after a few weeks if the material has been applied incorrectly or too thickly.
