Competitions for the Moscow Cup and the Moscow Championship in fire-applied sports, dedicated to the memory of the Heroes of Firefighters, were held in the capital from March 20 to 23. This year the competitions were timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of fire-applied sports. The round date of the sports discipline is directly related to the capital - after all, it was in Moscow in September 1937 that the first competitions for the championship of the GUPO NKVD took place.

Fire-applied sports can rightfully be considered one of the most spectacular and beautiful applied sports. It consists in the implementation of a complex of various techniques that are used in the practice of extinguishing fires. The discipline has a rich history, and Russian athletes win prizes at world competitions in fire and rescue sports. The fight for seconds in competitions is the fight for human lives in real conditions. Today, fire-applied sports include overcoming a 100-meter obstacle course, climbing an assault ladder, a 4x100 m fire relay, combat deployment, installation and climbing a retractable three-knee ladder, and biathlon.

13 teams from all administrative districts of the capital, as well as the teams of the State Public Institution "PSC", the Fire College and the Academy of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia took part in the current competition.

At the opening of the competition, Ilya Denisov, head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Moscow, noted that holding such events contributes to the implementation of the most important priority of the state policy of Russia - the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the education of a healthy generation. “Today we are moving in the right direction,” added Ilya Denisov, “the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Moscow is making every effort to support and develop our applied sports. In the capital, the development of this discipline is carried out by the Regional Public Organization "Sports Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers", whose activities are aimed at developing and popularizing fire-applied sports in the city of Moscow. As Vladimir Grigoriev, Executive Director of the Federation, noted at the opening of the competition, these competitions are one of the main starts for the Moscow team and teams from administrative districts in the winter. He expressed gratitude to the athletes for their dedication to firefighting and firefighting sports: “For many of you, this sport has become the meaning of life, you put all your strength and skills into it. Thanks to your efforts, we are among the top ten teams in Russia from 88 regions! Yes, we still have difficulties, but the leadership of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Moscow and the leadership of the Department for Civil Defense and Safety create all the conditions for us to move forward and develop!”

From this moment on, the athlete with an assault ladder in his hand runs 32 meters to the training tower and begins to climb it, securing the ladder to the window opening on each floor. The finish is made on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th floor, in accordance with the category, stepping with both feet on the contact plates located on the floor. Hundredths of a second separate the winners and prize-winners at the finish line. Women and girls, as well as younger and middle age groups, go up to the window of the 2nd floor, the boys of the older group go up to the window of the 3rd floor, men go up to the window of the 4th floor.

Fire-applied sports popular not only in Russia, but also in other countries. But programs for holding competitions abroad are developed on the basis of domestic ones. Athletes from Russia occupy leading positions in international competitions. In addition to specialized competitions, performances by athletes can often be seen on Fire Protection Day or at other city events and holidays.

Sports history

Applied fire and rescue sports were born in 1931. Then, programs for the physical training of workers were developed in each fire department. So the employees had to easily walk along the log, be able to quickly put on special clothing and other fire protection equipment, climb a rope, carry fire hoses, run fast and jump far, and also overcome various obstacles. Under the auspices of the NKVD, already in 1937 the first competitions were successfully organized. At the end of the Great Patriotic War, it was decided to improve the exercises in fire-applied sports. And the methodological plan was then developed directly by the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs. At that time, competitions were held only in the summer. From 1963 to 1968 the training system was revised, thanks to which firefighters could play sports all year round.

In the early 70s. there were several attempts to develop women's fire-applied sports. However, in view of its injury risk and severity, women were excluded from the competition. In the early 2000s. women were allowed to compete, setting more lenient standards.

From the history of fire sports, the first participants-athletes

In 2001 Federation of fire-applied sports of Russia approved the updated composition of the national team, which included athletes from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation. Today, the Federation of the teaching staff of the Russian Federation is a member of the International Sports Federation of Rescuers and Firefighters.

Achievements and records

For the entire time of the existence of the Federation of teaching staff of the Russian Federation, the combined team has achieved the following results:

  1. She won gold medals at 3,5,7, 11 World Championships, as well as at 1 and 2 International Asian Cups and 1 European Championship.
  2. She won silver at 1, 4 World Championships and 3 European Championships.
  3. Won bronze medals at the 10th World Championship.

During the same time, Russian athletes installed world records:

  • in 13.52 seconds, Dmitry Demin managed to climb to the 4th floor of the building using an assault ladder in 2003;
  • in 2012, his record was broken by Albert Loginov, performing the same exercise, but for 12.56 seconds, competitions in fire-applied sports were held in Turkey;
  • in 2015, Roman Wagner managed to repeat Loginov's record at the World Championship.

Types of exercises

Fire-applied sports exercises quite complex and heavy, requiring a long preparation of athletes.

  1. Obstacle course. The length of the distance is 100 m. The most intense exercise. Efficiency depends on how quickly the athlete overcomes a given distance and what technique he has for passing through obstacles. What is important here is a quick start, maintaining the rhythm of running, the ability to rationally distribute the center of gravity of the body, the ability to cope with sports equipment and quickly connect the sleeve lines.
  2. Assault ladder to the 4th floor of the building. Such an exercise is considered a separate type of program. Consists of the following steps:
    • run;
    • running with a training ladder;
    • suspension of stairs to the level of the 2nd floor;
    • climb it;
    • retention on the windowsill of the 2nd floor;
    • transfer of stairs to the level of the 4th floor;
    • climb it;
    • finish.

A difficult test for athletes - assault ladder

Competitors are required to develop a speed of 30 m / min on the rise and intensively rise to the level of the 4th floor with the correct technique.

  1. 4 x 100m relay. The most interesting part of every championship. Includes 4 stages. The first participant runs with a ladder to the fire house, climbs over it, passes the baton to another participant. The second participant must cope with a different task - to overcome the fence 2 m high! As soon as he copes with the obstacle, the third member of the team awaits him, who must very quickly assemble the fire hoses and attach them to the fire hose. The fourth participant, having waited for his turn, takes a fire extinguisher and eliminates the burning oil on the baking sheet. As soon as the flame is extinguished, the fourth participant runs to the finish line.
  2. combat deployment. The exercise is performed in conditions close to a real fire. The actions of the athletes should be as follows: it is necessary to assemble 2 suction hoses, attaching the end of one of them to the motor pump, and the second to the tank filled with water, then it is required to lay the main line from the motor pump, consisting of 3 hoses, lay 2 hose lines of 2 fire hoses in each and cope with the target. The result and speed of the task depends on how the relationship between the team members is built. The maximum time for this exercise is 40 seconds.

Competition fixtures

The organizer of the competition must provide athletes with equipment for fire-applied sports in the following configuration for each team:

  1. Fire hoses.
  2. Fire belts.
  3. Connecting heads.
  4. Fire helmets.
  5. Fire barrel.
  6. Staircase for storming the building.
  7. Safety net.
  8. Fence for an obstacle course.
  9. Fire house.
  10. Baking tray with relay race oil.
  11. Target during combat deployment.
  12. Tie-down kit.
  13. Ladder to overcome the fire house and the fence.

Competition uniform

During all competitions, participants must be fully equipped in sports suits, fire helmets, they must wear a fire-sports belt and special shoes. Additionally, each participant has equipment for fire-applied sports in the form of a fire hose and barrel.

Athletes uniform - tracksuits

For the form must be taken into account the following requirements:

  1. The material of the tracksuit should not be transparent, the sleeves should end at the level of the hand, and the length of the trousers should be at the level of 10 cm from the floor.
  2. Sports shoes should have notches and protrusions on the heels and soles, and spikes can also be installed to improve contact with the surface of the coating.
  3. The sports fire belt is attached to a buckle and has a width of 50 mm or more.
  4. Sportswear and helmets must be the same for the entire team of athletes.
  5. For the obstacle course at stage 4, the participant will additionally be provided with gloves, a face shield and other means of protection against high temperature when extinguishing burning oil in the pan.

Athletes training methodology

Each lesson is built from three stages: preparation, main part, completion.

Training is aimed at preparing the body of athletes before the competition. At the beginning of each lesson, the body is prepared for physical activity by walking and running fast, performing various exercises with and without dumbbells, as well as working on sports equipment.

During the main part of the training, the athlete learns the correct technique for performing exercises. During one training session, the emphasis is only on overcoming obstacles or the ability to assemble fire hoses, i.e. for just one specific exercise.

The speed of the program execution by the athlete is improved only before the competition, so that by that time the body has got used to the load and memorized the technique.

Some trainers put a lot of emphasis on the timing of each exercise, which is not the right approach. It is important not so much to complete the task quickly, but to teach athletes to do it efficiently. Timing is effective only in the pre-competition period, when a person has already mastered all the skills and techniques for performing a particular task, his muscles have become more resilient and ready for intense loads.
