Godetia herbaceous plants for open ground. Gorgeous and unpretentious Godetia will decorate the garden! Planting Godetia in flowerpots

Godetia is an incredibly beautiful flower bed plant. It blooms violently, brightly and for a very long time, almost until the very frost. In appearance, this plant is very similar to the classic azalea. The flower got its name in honor of the famous scientist, originally from Sweden, C H. Gode. It was he who studied and systematized Godetia.

This is an annual plant, up to 70-80 cm high. The flower diameter is about 10 cm. The plant blooms very profusely, forming a lively bright carpet of lilac, lilac, red, white, pink. Flowers can be both simple and double. The leaves are elongated, lanceolate, bright green. The plant is a bush, sprawling like a pyramid.

Growing from seeds in open ground

How to grow godetia from seeds? Godetia seeds can be planted in open ground in the garden. When to plant?

The best way to sow either late autumn, two weeks before the first frost, or early spring, early April. Here it is necessary to take into account regional peculiarities. If we are talking about the southern regions, with mild winters, then you can sow in late spring, but in regions with a colder climate, this should be done at the end of April, but if the weather changes often, then in mid-May. The plant begins to bloom approximately 80 days after planting.

The seeds of this plant are very small and light, so they are sown directly on the ground (to facilitate sowing, you can use a sieve by mixing the seeds with clean, calcined sand), and then lightly cover with earth (do not water).

The land for planting must be prepared: loosen and water, make the necessary mineral and organic fertilizers (this is necessary for the plant to bloom more violently): superphosphates, ammonium nitrate, kleic salt, humus, wood ash, urea, peat. If the seeds sprout often, then they need to be thinned out seedlings, leaving the strongest and most viable sprouts. Be sure to consider the type of plant.

The distance between undersized bushes can be about 30 cm, and tall bushes need more space.

What to do if seedlings of Godetia began to stretch? Try to move it to a lighter place and reduce watering (the reason for the seedlings to stretch and then fit may be its thickening, so be sure to thin it out, leaving only viable sprouts).

Remember: it is not worth transplanting plants from place to place, the sprouts are very difficult to transplant and do not bloom for a very long time.

As the earth dries up, the sprouts need to be watered, but do it carefully, using a watering can, not a hose.

Sowing godetia seeds in open ground

Growing seedlings at home (seedling planting technology)

Sowing for seedlings at home it is good that flowering from it can be expected in late May - early June. Although the procedure itself growing seedlings and rooting it in a permanent place is somewhat difficult, since the plant does not really like transplants.

Before planting seedlings, it is best to purchase special plastic seedling containers (or cassettes, or peat, or coconut tablets that are steamed in special disposable bags) filled with special nutrient soil. Put several seeds in each container, which must first be kept in a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate for disinfection, and after germination, leave only one seedling, the strongest. Thus, the first dive can be avoided. After sowing the seeds in the ground, it is necessary to water and close the container with a film or glass.

At the first stage of plant growth, the first top dressing can also be carried out in order for the root system to develop better.

Sowing seeds in containers

If the plants were sown in one container densely, then it is necessary to produce a pick. This usually happens at the stage of tying 5-6 leaves according to the 5/5 type.

How to dive?

See photo below.

picking years in disposable plastic containers:

Remember: when picking, seedlings are not deepened, the same applies to plant transplantation in open ground.

How to transplant a plant in open ground? Planting in open ground is best done in mid-May, in prepared soil. Additional warming of the soil and the plant itself is required only if the temperature at night drops below +10 degrees. It is best to plant in cool, cloudy and wet weather. In this case, the plant will survive the transplant more easily.

Choosing a landing site is very important. It is best to choose partial shade (the plant will not bloom in the shade), loamy soil. On sandy soils, the plant turns pale and blooms less. In very humid places, the root system may rot.

Transplantation in open ground:

Plants are planted at a distance of 25-30 cm from each other. Do this very carefully, keeping a clod of earth and without damaging the root system.

Remember: in order for the plant to better tolerate transplanting in open ground, it must be hardened. You can take out boxes with seedlings on the street, gradually increasing the time it stays in the fresh air.

Separately, it is worth considering the issue of planting a plant in Siberia. Firstly, sowing in open ground "before winter" is categorically not recommended. Seeds will not survive frost. Secondly, you can plant seedlings only at the end of May - beginning of June when there will definitely be no frost on the soil. It is best to keep the seedlings in a greenhouse or collapsible greenhouse, which can then be removed. To provide the plant with the sun, you need to choose the right place or use a reflection system. Only in this case, the godetia will develop well and bloom profusely.

plant care

Godetia requires some care, as this plant is quite tender.

  1. Water at least once a week (if it is hot, dry weather, then the number of waterings must be increased).
  2. Weed weeds (weeds can be inhabited by pests who love to eat juicy and tasty leaves of the plant).
  3. Fertilize plants (you can use both mineral fertilizers and organic fertilizers, up to chicken manure, but it is better to exclude nitrogenous fertilizers).
  4. Loosen the ground between plants (this procedure will avoid soiling and rotting of the roots).
  5. It is better to protect the plant from strong and scorching sunlight by shading.
  6. Be sure to remove dried flowers and seed boxes in order to ensure violent and long-term flowering (naturally, you can leave seed boxes for self-seeding, especially when it comes to the southern regions, but in this case it must be remembered that the varietal qualities of the plant will be lost ).
  7. Need to do pinching Godetia. Then it will bloom better. How to pinch? Simple enough, removing the top near the interleaves. It is also necessary to pinch so that the godetia does not stretch upwards. By the way, the Godetia, grown from seedlings and transplanted into open ground, stretches up. Godetia, which was grown immediately in open ground, “does not suffer” from elongation and thinning of the stems.

Godetia often suffer from powdery mildew, brown rot, rust. For the treatment of diseased plants, it is best to use fungicides and antifungal drugs. If several plants are already sick, then they should be removed from the garden. In order to prevent these diseases from appearing, it is necessary to avoid waterlogging of the soil and thickening of plants.

With proper care, this plant becomes a decoration of any garden. It looks great in flower beds (photos of flowers in a flower bed can be seen below). It is used for decoration, alpine slides. High godetia is suitable for cutting. In vases with water, the plant can stand up to two weeks.

Godetia can be grown at home, in vases and pots, best of all on balconies. The plant feels great in a limited soil volume (but, all the same, it is better to choose undersized varieties). In the planting container, you need to place drainage, fertilizers (granular or in the form of sticks), pour special soil and plant plants. After planting, it is best to water. Re-feeding can be done in a month and a half.

Planting Godetia in flowerpots:

Remember: at first, the year, planted both in the garden and at home, must be shaded so as not to damage the fragile and capricious seedlings. Another secret to successfully growing godetia is planting it in light-colored ceramic or plastic pots that will not get very hot in the sun and create a “bath” for the roots of the plant.

The amazing godetia flower is deservedly popular with gardeners. Every year it pleases the owners with bright flowers. Everyone who has ever seen godetia certainly wants to plant this plant in their garden in order to enjoy its splendor every day.

In its beauty, this plant is very similar to the azalea, but unlike the latter, godetia is less demanding. In addition, she pleases the owners with delicate flowers until the frost. Actually, because of this, Godetia is in demand among gardeners.

general information

This flower comes from distant California, but it got its name thanks to a Swiss botanist. Godetia was named after the scientist C. Gode, who put a lot of effort into breeding this plant.

In nature, this plant grows not only in California, but also in North America. In Russia, godetia is found only in household plots and in houses.

Godetia is an annual plant and belongs to the fireweed family. This flower has branched, upright stems. The height of the bush can reach 60 cm. Godetia flowers are large. Because of this, it is often called - large-flowered Godetia. In shape, the flowers are very similar to a bell or tall cups. The color of the buds is varied and depends on the variety of the plant.

As they mature, the flowers of the large-flowered godetia stretch and fall off. The tetrahedral box hiding under them becomes visible. This is the fruit of a flower. From it amateur gardeners receive seeds for further breeding.

The plant blooms for a very long time. appear in early July. The last buds open in late autumn.

plant species

There are many types of godetia, but not all of them are used in gardening.

This type of plant is considered the most common. It has stems up to 40 cm high, on which a large number of flowers of various colors bloom. Most often you can find large-flowered Godetia with white, scarlet, pink and crimson flowers.

Outwardly, each flower looks like a funnel with a diameter of about 10 cm. The following varieties of large-flowered godetia are most popular:

  • Weiser Schwann. The height of this godetia variety is only 30 cm. The inflorescences are also small: no more than 5 cm.
  • Orange Room. This godetia variety has a height of 50 cm, but very small flowers. Their diameter does not exceed 5 cm. The flowers are mostly red with an orange tint.

Terry

This is a large plant up to 65 cm high. The color palette of inflorescences ranges from white to pink. Terry godetia got its name not by chance: its large buds are covered with small hairs. The most famous are the following varieties:

  • Sybil Sherwood. This plant barely reaches 40 cm in height, but at the same time produces a large number of inflorescences, consisting of flowers up to 5 cm in diameter. The buds are predominantly colored pink, fading towards the edges of the petals.
  • Rembrandt. This is another type of terry godetia. Rembrandt enjoys great success with gardeners for his beauty. Its flowers are bell-shaped in shape. The buds have a pronounced hairiness. The flowers are exceptionally bright red.
  • Monarch. This variety is also called dwarf. The fact is that the height of this plant does not exceed 20 cm. Its inflorescences are also small, but there are very, very many of them. In addition, they have a very rich color palette. This type of godetia blooms from early summer to mid-autumn.

lovely

The stems of this type of godetia can reach a height of 60 cm. The plant is large, but gives small pink flowers with a red tint along the edges. Sometimes you can have a lovely godetia with raspberry-colored flowers. Begins to bloom in July and ends in September. Two varieties of this flower are popular:

  • Kirshkenigin. Its flowers are distinguished by a red-pink palette.
  • Crystal snowflake. This variety has very high stems: up to 75 cm. Flowers of predominantly white color appear on them.

flower reproduction

This is an annual plant, which means that it can be propagated only with the help of seeds. They can be either simply sown in open ground, or pre-grown seedlings from them.

Growing from seed

This is the easiest way to propagate this plant at home. If the grower grows this plant for the first time, then he will have to purchase seeds in a flower shop. But if it is already growing in the house or in the garden, then you just need to properly collect the seeds for propagation.

Seed material should be collected a month after the godetia flowers fall off. By this time, the seed box will fully ripen.

It is better to cut it off after it has completely darkened. After that, the box needs to be dried a little and stored until spring, if the plant is planted in the spring.

By the way, the cultivation of Godetia seeds can be carried out not only in spring, but also in winter. For spring planting, follow these guidelines:

  • In spring, seeds should be sown only in well-warmed soil. As a rule, it warms up not earlier than the end of April. You can sow seeds in mung bean, but not later than the first week.
  • Landing is best done in well-lit areas.
  • The soil must be fertile. Godetia does not take root well on the sand.
  • Before planting the seed, the soil must be thoroughly dug up and loosened. It is advisable to add humus and wood ash to it.
  • Seeds should be distributed over the plot so that there is a distance of at least 20 cm between them.
  • Experts advise sowing seeds randomly. In this case, the flower garden will look more natural.
  • Since the seeds of the plant are small, after sowing it is not necessary to sprinkle them with a large amount of earth.
  • After planting, the area should be plentifully watered with warm water. In order to speed up the emergence of seedlings, you can cover the landing site with a film.

If everything is done correctly, then the first shoots should appear 14 days after planting. Care for them consists in timely watering and weeding. Also, do not forget about fertilizing the soil. According to experts, top dressing should be applied to the ground 2 times a week. In this case, both granular fertilizers and liquid fertilizers can be used.

Sometimes, as an experiment, some gardeners plant godetia seeds in open ground for the winter. Unfortunately, this is not possible in all regions. In addition, caring for plants that have emerged from such seeds will be more difficult. However, it is believed that such godetia is more resistant to diseases and adapts more easily to external conditions.

Reproduction by seedlings

In winter, godetia seeds are most often used to obtain seedlings at home. To do this, each seed is placed in a separate planting container with soil.

After that, they are covered with a film to create greenhouse conditions. For good germination of seeds, they need to provide proper care: air the "greenhouses" in time, remove condensate from the film and carry out timely watering.

With quality care, the first shoots at home will appear after 7 days. After the appearance of the first sprouts, the film should be disposed of.

And after the first full-fledged leaves, godetia seedlings can be transplanted into pots of several pieces. During picking, you need to remember to cut off too long roots.

By the end of spring, seedlings grow up to 6 cm in height. After that, they can be safely transplanted into open ground. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that at first the direct sunlight does not fall on the seedlings. In addition, plants should be placed in the ground with an old earthen clod. The distance between seedlings should not be less than 20 cm.

To successfully grow a plant with seedlings, the following recommendations should be followed:

  • For growing seedlings, it is better to use seeds of large-flowered Godetia. It tolerates transplants better and resists diseases better.
  • Seedlings cannot be kept on a draft.
  • During transplantation, care should be taken to ensure that the roots of the plants are securely covered with soil.
  • Planting seedlings should be carried out in a well-loosened soil.
  • During planting, it is advisable to put a little white clay in each hole. This is a good fertilizer for this plant. It will provide its flowers with a more saturated color.

Features of care

Regardless of the type of planting, in order for the plant to please with a lush color, it needs to provide quality care. To do this, you need to perform the following manipulations:

  • Watering should be done as needed. In this case, you can not irrigate the leaves of the plant. From moisture, they fall and lose their appearance.
  • Plants should grow on the sunny side of the garden, but avoid overexposure to sunlight as it can damage the leaves and root system. You can protect the root system with mulching.
  • The flower needs to be fed regularly. It is very important to give nitrophoska during care. It promotes enhanced growth.
  • Weeding should not be forgotten. Weeds cannot clog godetia, but they are able to take most of the nutrients from the soil. Therefore, weeding should be started immediately after the appearance of the first sprouts.

Diseases and pests

The problems of this plant include diseases and pests. She is very fond of herbivorous insects. To protect against these pests, weeds must be regularly removed and treated with a soap-ash solution.

This flower is often affected by downy mildew. The disease can be identified by light spots on the leaves of the plant. You can cope with this fungal disease with the help of conventional fungicides.

If the flower grows on too wet soil, then there is a high probability of damage to its root system by rot. Unfortunately, it is impossible to rid the plant of this problem, and it will die.

Use in landscape design

This plant has a full range of qualities that make it a desirable inhabitant of any flower garden. Therefore, it is very much in demand in landscape design. These qualities include:

  • Great look.
  • Long flowering time.
  • Disease resistance.
  • Good cold tolerance.
  • Unpretentiousness in care.

Godetia is planted in small groups. This allows you to create a color accent in the garden. Dwarf plant varieties are usually planted at the very edge of the flower bed. Sometimes they make a flower garden border.

Tall plant varieties are usually placed near a fence, wall, or next to a shrub. The thing is, they need support.

This plant grows well in pots. If in flowerbeds long branches of godetia created problems, then in flowerpots they are an advantage. Here their lodging is most appropriate. The shoots bent under the weight of the buds look really chic.

If you follow the simple rules for growing Godetia and placing it in the garden, you can get amazing landscape ensembles. In addition, the flowers of this plant can be cut and made into bouquets that will be wonderful gifts for loved ones.

Godetia, which arrived to us from California, allows you to give tenderness and special flavor to any land plot. In our area, two of its varieties are most popular: lovely and large-flowered. It is used to create drawings from flowers, it is able to decorate any flower bed, terrace, loggia or area at the entrance to your own house. Many who try to spend most of their time on garden crops grow Godetia because of its low environmental requirements.

Godetia reproduces well by seeds. There are three ways to do this:

  1. planting seeds before winter
  2. sowing seeds in spring
  3. early seedlings.

Of course, it is easiest to sow seeds directly into the open ground and, with sufficient care, expect lush flowering. But it is worth noting that from the emergence of seedlings to the beginning of flowering, it can take about two months. That is, half of the summer can be spent waiting. Those who wish to speed up this process choose the third method from those listed above. If you are one of those impatient people who crave natural beauty, you will be interested in learning in detail the method that allows you to see how flowers bloom as quickly as possible. godetia, - growing from seeds at home.

Features of growing seedlings of Godetia from seeds

The process of growing godetia seedlings at home does not differ in any special subtleties, but you still need to understand the main points: the composition of the substrate, the rules for sowing and care.

We prepare the substrate

It is safest to buy ready-made substrate from the appropriate department - this is the best way to avoid any infection of young shoots. You can also safely use leafy ground prepared by yourself. Whatever method you choose to create a substrate for growing godetia at home, remember the main thing - it must contain loam. It would also be nice to add some ash to balance the acidity. Self-prepared soil must be disinfected in one of the following ways:

  • heat for half an hour in a hot oven,
  • pour plenty of boiling water
  • carefully pour a solution of potassium permanganate or another drug with a similar effect.

Sowing seeds

In order to contemplate the indescribable beauty of godetia at the beginning of summer, planting seeds at home should be done at the beginning of the first spring month. Seeds will be able to successfully germinate in two weeks if they are not sprinkled with a large amount of soil after sowing. You can not sprinkle them at all, but only water them abundantly. After that, to create optimal conditions for seed germination, the container with the substrate is covered with a film or glass. As the soil dries, it is moistened. After persistent sprouts appear, they must be hardened. To do this, the film or glass is removed for a short time several times a day.

When 2-3 true leaves appear, seedlings can dive

Dive and landing on a permanent place

When the seedlings have two or three true leaves, they can be dived into separate pots. This must be done very carefully so as not to damage the delicate roots. In order for further planting in open ground to be most successful, it is advisable to dive the sprouts into peat pots, which can be lowered into the ground along with the roots.

It is necessary to plant seedlings of Godetia in a flower garden, in flowerpots on a balcony or terrace in the second half of May, when there are minutes of frost. The optimal distance between adjacent specimens is 20-25 cm, in flowerpots it may be less.

What you need to know about growing Godetia in the open field

As already noted, godetia does not belong to the number of capricious plants, otherwise it would not have become the favorite of numerous summer residents and gardeners. Many do not have the desire to wait long for godetia to bloom, growing from seeds at home has therefore become their preferred breeding option for this flower. But what to do after the seedlings are planted in a permanent place? The further success of growing Godetia depends on the observance of some subtleties:

Moderate watering. Godetia does not tolerate both drought and excess moisture, so a reasonable approach to watering and good drainage are important.

Weak shading. The flower does not grow well in full shade, but may disappear from burning sunlight. The way out is landing in a place where part of the day will be the sun, and part - a shallow shadow.

Pest control. Godetia is a tasty morsel for many insects, so do not forget to regularly inspect each bush in order to carry out rescue measures in time if necessary.

Strengthening the plant

As you can see, godetia does not require any supernatural attitude towards itself. It is not too troublesome to grow it from seeds at home. It won't be too hard to take care of it either.

Thinking over the design of your site, pay attention to the godetia flowers. This flower is not very popular with novice gardeners, they are scared off by the similarity of the flower with the whimsical azalea. However, godetia in care is not worthy of the title of capricious. On the contrary, its cultivation is not difficult, and the flowering is delicate, beautiful and unusual. Godetia is most often found on the continents of America, and its homeland is Southern California. This type of plant appeared with the beginning of the 60s, while the botanist Godet Ts.Kh. studied this species and distributed it to almost all gardens in Europe. Its rapid spread was facilitated by the fact that the plant is unpretentious, has a chic look and is able to ennoble any garden.

Description of culture

Godetia is an annual flower, which, depending on the type and conditions, reaches a minimum height of 20 cm, and a maximum of 60 cm. The flower has erect stems, the branches of which form neat bushes. They can also have a different shape, creating pyramidal or sprawling plantings, and since this species cannot be cut to create shapes, then when choosing a variety, pay attention to its shape. Even the stems of a flower can vary: smooth and branched, but the buds, although not always large, are graceful in their own way in each species. Its flowers are not only different in shape (cup-shaped and bell-shaped), but also in structure, which is double or smooth, and the diameter of the flowers can vary from 4 cm to 10 cm.

The color of the inflorescences has a varied palette of colors: white, carmine, red, purple, peach, pink, and some varieties stand out especially, having a combined color. The leaves are entire, lanceolate or alternate, with short peduncles, the fruit of which is collected in a cylindrical box, where small seeds ripen, and they germinate for quite a long time (3-4 years). The culture of this plant has hybrid varieties, such as: dwarf, terry, azalea, and bushy.

Godetia flowers bloom from July until the most severe frosts, although you can’t say that such delicate, light flowers can cope with harsh weather conditions, while they are not afraid of dry summers either, but this fact is less surprising, because her homeland is it is a warm and arid country. And yet, each flower is saturated with a pleasant vanilla aroma. If you want to cut a flower and put it in a vase, then add a pinch of citric acid to the water to enhance this smell.

Species diversity

In nature, there are about 20 plant species, but in our countries only two species are popular, as well as a considerable number of hybrids and varieties that were obtained on the basis of these two species. Each subspecies is great for decorating a garden or flower bed, but you should always consider the size of an adult bush. Those that do not grow too large are suitable for creating small flower beds or a border. But in a large space, varieties that can reach a considerable height and grow over large areas look spectacular, in addition, such species have more lush flowering.

  • Large-flowered - this beauty is considered a medium-sized shrub, since its height does not exceed 40 cm, its fragile stems become woody after the growing season. This species has large flowers, up to 10 cm in diameter, due to its large size, this godetia is called azalea. Varieties of this species are different in shape and color.
  1. Orange Room is a variety that branches well, its petals are whole-cut, bell-shaped. They have a bright red-orange color.
  2. Rembrandt is a low variety in which the stems grow straight. Its flowers, which grow vertically, open to 6 cm in diameter. The petals create an extraordinary inflorescence with their wavy and jagged edges. Each petal has a carmine spot in the center.
  3. Monarch is a neat bush that does not overshadow other flowers, but complements them, since this variety grows no more than 20 cm in height. Its graceful bell-shaped flowers have a carmine speck at the base. And the color can be varied - from white to crimson.
  4. Sybil Sherwood - the variety is formed by small bushes, no more than 40 cm. Semi-double flowers of medium size (5 cm), have a pale pink color, and the edges turn into a lighter tone, in the center there is a yellow eye.
  • Lovely godetia - its tall, brittle, erect stems, after the growing season become semi-lignified. The inflorescences of its varieties can be cup-shaped or bell-shaped, the diameter of which does not exceed 6 cm. The petals are satin to the touch with a bright or white color.
  1. Crystal snowflake is a tall plant, the stem of which can reach 80 cm, snow-white flowers enchant with their unassuming shape.
  2. York - low sprawling bushes, no more than 40 cm high. They have large inflorescences, in the shape of a bowl. Purple petals, having a white base and a whole edge, look unusually beautiful against the background of the surrounding greenery.
  3. Blitz Shtral is a medium-sized plant, but if well cared for, it can grow up to 60 cm. Large flowers resemble cups, their diameter is also 6 cm, the petals are slightly wavy, dark red.

Godetia opens in any weather, without losing its decorative effect until withering. This plant is great for cutting, but don't worry - the freshness, while in a vase, the flowers retain for a long time, and your home will be filled with the aroma of light vanilla. If you cut unopened buds - standing in the water, they will bloom anyway.

Growing Godetia

In open ground, a plant can be grown by sowing seeds or seedlings, whichever method you choose - it is based on seeds. So, let's look at each method separately.

Sowing seeds

Based on the fact that godetia grows only from seeds, it will be possible to propagate it much faster by sowing them, and there will be no difficulties. To do this, you need to sow the seeds simply in the ground, but you can first grow seedlings. If you sow seeds on the plot, then this should be done in April, preferably at the end of the month. In areas with a particularly warm climate, sowing is carried out before winter. Before planting, the seeds must be held in a solution of potassium permanganate with a small concentrate. Half an hour is enough to protect the plant from diseases and get guaranteed seedlings.

The most suitable soil for growing a crop is neutral or slightly acidic, and it is also desirable to place future flowers in a sunny area. Next, you need to dig and moisten the soil, before sowing, you need to apply mineral fertilizers, humus, as well as wood ash. Then the seeds are sown half a centimeter deep, observing a clear distance between plants, not less than 25 cm. If you want to see seedlings in a week, then you should cover the ground with a film. Shoots that have sprouted densely will have to be thinned out. This method is better than seedlings because when the seedlings need to be moved to the ground or dive, some of the plants are injured, most of which subsequently die.

Seedling

Godetia, growing from seeds of which needs good drainage and loose soil, is placed in containers. This must be done in March or April. Mix the seeds with sand and scatter them over the surface, then sprinkle them with a small layer of soil, pull a film over the container to get the effect of a greenhouse. Do not forget to remove the film for some time every day, as the plant needs to be ventilated, and also, if necessary, moisten the soil. After about ten days, the first shoots appear, which means that the film can be removed. When two leaves are observed on the seedlings, they need to dive, for this they need to be dug up, shake off the soil, shorten too long roots, and then transplanted into separate containers, three things can be planted in one.

Landing time

Many novice flower growers do not know if they will achieve lush flowering from godetia when grown from seeds and when is it best to plant it, in spring or autumn? The answer is simple - the optimal time for planting godetia depends directly on the conditions.

  • Spring planting and care. It is carried out in May or June, seedlings that have grown to 6 cm in height should be transplanted into the ground, while a clod of earth remains on the roots, otherwise the roots may be damaged. It is better to transplant early in the morning, when the weather is cloudy, but the sun has not yet risen, or in the evening, after sunset. It is important to observe the distance between the bushes, it should be at least 20 cm, while: tall varieties require a greater distance.
  • Landing before winter. A flower can be planted before winter, only in regions with a warm climate. To begin with, it will be just an experiment, mostly flower growers sow seeds directly into the ground, in order to avoid the death of the plant. It is generally accepted that plants sown in late autumn are better able to adapt and more resistant to diseases and pest attacks.

Exquisite godetia care

Godetia care is minimal. It lies in the fact that the soil must be loosened and kept moist - thus, it will grow faster, as the roots will become more spacious. Watering should not be plentiful, but regular. Tall varieties are best tied up, otherwise they may break.

To make the bloom more lush and bright , caring for godetia involves feeding with minerals that contain a low level of nitrogen.

Such top dressing is desirable monthly. A solution of nitrophoska is well suited. In order to make it right, take one tablespoon and dilute it into 12 liters of water.
Do not forget about pests and diseases that are not excluded for Godetia. Of course, most troubles can be prevented with proper care, in which it is very important to observe moderate watering and remove weeds, otherwise the roots will be susceptible to fungal diseases and various pests.

Even a beginner in floriculture can grow godetia. After all, following the simple rules of maintaining bright light and moisture will allow you to achieve lush and fragrant inflorescences. Due to the fact that this culture has a wide and affordable selection of different varieties, you can create an unusually beautiful composition from different shades of petals and sizes of the flower itself.
